SIOS members may make use of a special offer on car hire in Longyearbyen. Arctic Autorent is offering a 10% discount to researchers booking their car hire via SIOS. The offer applies outside of the high season (15th June-15th August).
Arctic Autorent has an office at Svalbard airport where you can pick up the car. In addition to their office hours they offer an out-of-hours telephone service. For more information visit www.autorent.no.

- Transport of cargo between Longyearbyen and Ny-Ålesund

The regular Lufttransport flights between Longyearbyen and Ny-Ålesund have limited capacity in the cargo hold, which can be a challenge for researchers who need to bring a lot of equipment between the two settlements.
To solve this problem, the SIOS logistics service has teamed up with a local tour operator to offer transport of cargo by boat on regular tourist trips during the summer season.
Better Moments offers transport of items up to 1x1x1m in the cargo hold, and larger items on deck (items on deck risk getting sprayed with seawater). They run regular trips on Thursdays and Sundays between May and August, subject to weather conditions and sufficient bookings. The cost will be determined on a case by case basis. This service is offered from quay to quay, which means transport of cargo to and from the boat must be organised separately.
