The SIOS marine infrastructure network was initiated in response to recommendations in the first SESS report, published in 2019. Two of the chapters (Bensi et al & Cottier et al) highlighted the need for closer collaboration between the various owners and operators of marine infrastructures in the Svalbard region. In addition, SIOS-KC has received requests from the marine science community for support to accessing ship time and help to service moorings. The marine infrastructure network was launched in a workshop held 19 November 2020 and organised by SIOS-KC in collaboration with key partners.
The aims of this network are to provide a meeting place for the marine science community in Svalbard to discuss harmonisation of marine data collection, joint projects, sharing of infrastructure and logistics and other forms of collaboration.
