Andrea Merlone from Istituto Nazionale di Ricerca Metrologica and National Research Council of Italy conducted the first secondment in the SIOS secondment programme. He joined SIOS-KC in spring 2022 and worked on several metrology related tasks:
- Mapping calibration needs within SIOS related stations
- Evaluating instrument and field uncertainties. Principles and methods
- Evaluating conformity of measuring sites to WMO and CIMO requirements
- Collecting best practices for inclusion in the Global Cryosphere Watch WMO programme guides
- Feasibility study for a metrology lab at UNIS, including training of staff
- Training course in general metrology and in specific topics about 'Metrology for Arctic observations'
- Organisation of the 5th Arctic Metrology Workshop
