Meet the new early career researcher joining the remote sensing working group!

The SIOS remote sensing working group has chosen the new ECR observer for 2021/2022: Sara Aparício.

Sara Aparício is an Earth Observation data scientist at the European Space Agency (ESA) in ESRIN/Italy, through Solenix, where she also provides engineering support to the Phi-Lab department in ESRIN.

For the past years she has been involved in numerous Earth observation (EO) activities, lately with growing focus in Artificial Intelligence (AI) for EO activities and has also been involved in several networking and outreach actions for the Agency. Currently she is also doing a PhD in the areas of combination of AI and multi-sensors EO for the study of Cryosphere and Climate change.

Prior to her current duties in Italy, she has conducted research, has co-founded a start-up in the area of STEM and education, and was the President of APECS Portugal (Association of Polar Scientists in Portugal). Sara holds a master in Environmental Engineer degree having been awarded with Merit recognition from the University.
