The SIOS Data Management Service (SDMS) integrates information from SIOS partner data repositories into a unified virtual data centre, the SIOS Data Access Portal, allowing users to search for and access data regardless of where they are archived. Providers and users have to commit to the SIOS data policy.
The current focus is on dataset discovery through standardised metadata, and retrieval, visualisation & transformation of data. Ultimately, the Data Management Service works towards integration of datasets which requires a high level of interoperability at the data level.
SDMS currently harvests information on SIOS relevant datasets from a number of data centres (see below), some hosted by SIOS partners and some not. Data centres hosted by SIOS partners work to harmonise access to the data allowing integrated visualisation etc for the relevant datasets.

Brief user guide
The Data Access Portal has information in 3 columns. An outline of the content in these columns is provided above. When first entering the search interface, all potential datasets are listed. Datasets are indicated in the map and results tabulation elements which are located in the middle column. The order of results can be modified using the "Sort by" option in the left column. On top of this column is normally relevant guidance information to user presented as collapsible elements.
If the user want to refine the search, this can be done by constraining the bounding box search. This is done in the map - the listing of datasets is automatically updated. Date constraints can be added in the left column. For these to take effect, the user has to push the button marked search. In the left column it is also possible to specific text elements to search for in the datasets. Again pushing the button marked "Search" is necessary for these to take action. Complex search patterns can be constructed using logical operators from the drop down above the text field and prefixing words with '+' to require their presence and '-' to require their non presence.
Other elements indicated in the left and right columns are facet searches, i.e. these are keywords that are found in the datasets and all datasets that contain these specific keywords in the appropriate metadata elements are listed together. Further refinement can be done using full text, date or bounding box constraints. Individuals, organisations and data centres involved in generating or curating the datasets are listed in the facets in the right column.
Current measurements from Recording Doppler Current Meters (RDCP), Acoustic Doppler Current Meters (ADCP) and Recording Current Meters (RCM) from the moorings F11, F12, F13, F14, F17 from the Fram Strait Arctic Outflow Observatory in the East Greenland Current maintained by the Norwegian Polar Institute (NPI) since September 2009. Exact locations and additional instrument information is given in the meta data in each data file individually.

Data are provided at the original sampling rate (which varies from 15 minutes to 2 hours).

The UNIS Hydrographic Database (UNIS HD) is a collection of temperature and salinity profiles from the area (0-34°E and 75-83°N). Main data contributors are The University Centre in Svalbard (UNIS), University of Bergen (UiB), Institute of Marine Research (IMR), Norwegian Polar Institute (NPI), the Arctic University of Norway (UiT), Institute of Oceanology Polish Academy of Sciences (IOPAS), The Scottish Association for Marine Science (SAMS), Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute (AARI), and Alfred Wegener Institut (AWI). Additional data in the database have been extracted from other data publishers; the Norwegian Marine Data Centre (NMDC, https://www.nmdc.no), the dataset catalogue of the Norwegian Polar Institute (https://data.npolar.no/dataset), the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea (ICES) dataset on ocean hydrography (https://ocean.ices.dk/HydChem), the PANGAEA data publisher (https://www.pangaea.de), the North Atlantic and Nordic Seas hydrography collection (NANSHY; Nilsen, 2015) based on the dataset from the project Norwegian Iceland Seas Experiment (NISE; Nilsen et al., 2008), and the Unified Database for Arctic and Subarctic Hydrography (UDASH; Behrendt et al., 2018). Data are processed with standard software from the instrument manufacturers, and most of them calibrated with in situ water bottle analysis and post-cruise calibration. However, calibration has not been quality checked in all the data, so use with caution (salinity values in particular). Duplicate data and outliers are removed. Remaining profiles are provided with information of owner or source institution and citation when possible (see Citation list).

Abstract:
Conductivity-Temperature-Depth (CTD) profiles from Norwegian Polar Institute cruise AO-I-2023 to the Fram Strait. The dataset includes profiles of sensor temperature, conductivity, dissolved oxygen, chlorophyll fluorescence, coloured dissolved organic matter fluorescence, beam attenuation, and calculated practical salinity (EOS-80). Profile data are from down casts only and made available in a vertical resolution of 1 decibar (i.e. averaged into 1-decibar bins). The dataset also includes laboratory measurements of salinity and chlorophyll a from Niskin bottle samples. Laboratory results for several core parameters are to be added successively. The data are contained in a single, self-documenting netCDF file. Profile data are organised in arrays with one column per cast and one row per depth bin (pressure bin). Bottle data are organised in arrays with one column per cast and one row per Niskin bottle. One-dimensional metadata (such as time and position) are organised as a single row with one column per cast. Two-dimensional metadata (such as sample number) relate to Niskin bottle data and are organised in arrays with one column per cast and one row per Niskin bottle. All variables have the same number of columns, equal to the total number of CTD casts. Phytoplankton data collected on a scientific cruise in the biology course AB-202 by The University Centre in Svalbard. The data is collected from different fjords on the west coast of Spitsbergen and by the marginal ice zone in the period 26.04.2023-01.05.2023.
This dataset includes observations of benthic organisms from Isfjorden, Billefjorden, Kongsfjorden, Magdalenafjorden and the marginal ice zone (MIZ). The organisms were collected using benthic trawls. The trawls were done in April 2023, during a field trip on F/F Helmer Hanssen for students in the AB202 course at UNIS. The benthos were described to the lowest possible taxonomic level by the students.
This data was collected during a AB-202 Helmer Hanssen field cruise in the spring of 2023. The cruise lasted from 26.04-01.05. The stations were Kongsfjorden (KB3), Magdalenafjorden (MAG), marginal ice zone (MIZ) and Billefjorden (BAB). The data was collected with a benthic trawl at each of the stations.
The data was collected from different fjords around Spitsbergen with the use of macrozooplankton nets (1000 μm). The sampling locations are Isfjorden (IsK), Kongsfjorden (KB3) and Magdalenefjorden (MF), and the sampling was done at almost maximum depth.
The data set contains daily sea ice concentrations for each of the 42 Nansen Legacy stations for the period 2017-2021 derived from AMSR-2 and AMSR-E sea ice concentrations products. The data set is complemented with local sea ice concentration from visual bridge-based observations of the state of sea ice pack conducted following ASSIST Ice Watch protocol during some of the Nansen Legacy cruises to the study area.

Data products generated by the Ocean Colour component of the European Space Agency Climate Change Initiative project. These files are daily composites of merged sensor (MERIS, MODIS Aqua, SeaWiFS LAC & GAC, VIIRS, OLCI) products. MODIS Aqua and SeaWiFS were band-shifted and bias-corrected to MERIS bands and values using a temporally and spatially varying scheme based on the overlap years of 2003-2007. VIIRS was band-shifted and bias-corrected in a second stage against the MODIS Rrs that had already been corrected to MERIS levels, for the overlap period 2012-2013; and at the third stage OLCI was bias corrected against already corrected MODIS, for overlap period 2016-07-01 to 2019-06-30. VIIRS, MODIS, SeaWiFS and MERIS Rrs were derived from a combination of NASA/s l2gen (for basic sensor geometry corrections, etc) and HYGEOS Polymer v4.12 (for atmospheric correction). OLCI Rrs were sourced at L1b (already geometrically corrected) and processed with polymer. The Rrs were binned to a sinusoidal 1km level-3 grid, and later to 1km geographic projection, by Brockmann Consult/s SNAP. Derived products were generally computed with the standard algorithmsthrough SeaDAS. QAA IOPs were derived using the standard SeaDAS algorithm but with a modified backscattering table to match that used in the bandshifting. The final chlorophyll is a combination of OCI, OCI2, OC2 and OCx, depending on the water class memberships. Uncertainty estimates were added using the fuzzy water classifier and uncertainty estimation algorithm of Tim Moore as documented in Jackson et al (2017). and updated accorsing to Jackson et al. (in prep).
Sea ice salinity and temperature mesured on ice cores collected on the Nansen Legacy seasonal cruises in the Barents Sea and Nansen Basin. The sea ice cores were collected on seven Nansen Legacy research cruises (Q1, Q2, Q3, Q4, JC1-2, JC2-1, JC3) onboard RV Kronprins Haakon between February and December in 2018-2022.

Data of salinity and temperature measured on sea ice cores collected on seven Nansen Legacy research cruises (Q1, Q2, Q3, Q4, JC1-2, JC2-1, JC3) onboard RV Kronprins Haakon between February and December in 2018-2022, covering seasonal data in the Barents Sea and Nansen Basin. The ice stations followed Nansen Legacy standard stations (P, M, NLEG, PICE, SICE) on a south-north (76N-83N) repeated transect. Method: Sea ice cores were collected using a Kovacs corer (Ø=9cm) and ice temperature (WVR temperature sensor) was meaured at every 5 cm of the core. The core was cut into 10 cm pieces, melted and salinity (WTW 3310 conductivity sensor) was measured in the lab onboard. Different cores were used in this data set; “chem core” is the main core, “alkalinity core” is extra core and “NaN” is mostly due to collection by the sea ice physics team.

Sea ice drift trajectories and waves in sea ice data collected over the period 2017-2022 by a consortium of researchers, both in the Arctic and the Antarctic.
The data set present the calculated sea ice back-trajectories of 30 sea ice stations conducted in the northern Barents Sea and in western Arctic Basin north of Svalbard between August 2018 to March 2022. The sea ice stations were made during eight research cruises to the area with R/V Kronprins Haakon in the framework of the Nansen Legacy project.
