The SIOS Logistics Sharing Notice Board – it works!

Due to travel restrictions in relation with the Covid-19 pandemic, many scientists from SIOS member institutions could not conduct fieldwork in Svalbard during spring and summer 2020. In these special times, SIOS-KC offered to assist where possible in order to avoid gaps in long-term data series.

Through our newly launched Logistics Sharing Notice Board, the SIOS-KC team received a request from the University of Silesia from Poland for help in installing instruments and collecting the samples in the Wedel Jarlsberg Land. Thanks to close cooperation with the University Centre in Svalbard (UNIS) we were able to organize a short fieldwork campaign in the vicinity of the Polish Polar Station Hornsund. Our team spent three days at the Baranowski Station (University of Wroclaw) next to the Werenskioldbreen maintaining automatic weather stations, time-lapse cameras, water gauge station, collecting water samples and measuring the water runoff in two catchments.

If you also can offer or need help for fieldwork, collecting data or instrument installation, please visit the Logistics Sharing Notice Board.
